This exhibition explores the connection between human life, emotion, and nature that takes the viewer on a spiritual journey to another world. This collection of art depicts imaginary worlds in abstract landscapes through oil painting, watercolor and sculpture and invites the viewer to enter an inner realm of the mind, where they may find solace and strength while navigating life’s uncertain path.

The artist’s vision is that human life and nature are continually intertwined, shaping the reality of existence. When confronted with adversity, one seeks a path forward and the strength to rise above it. Nature - with its beauty, mystery, and power - offers comfort and foments positive emotions during those difficult times.

The circular motif observed in each work symbolizes a “portal” through which one’s spirit metaphorically travels, connecting one person’s thoughts to another world beyond space and time. That spiritual journey is portrayed in the illuminated landscape within the circle, as though nature’s beauty casts light on a glimpse of the human mind. The circle illustrates the portal to another world, reflecting the artist’s memory of a large oculus window known as the “Window of Enlightenment” in an ancient temple in her home country, Japan.

Interestingly, the creative method within each work traces a fatalistic path through life, while suggesting that one must accept what one encounters; brushstrokes and dripping paints led by the forces of gravity whimsically create distinctive abstract shapes and colors. Transforming these elements of chance and fate into imaginary landscapes parallels life itself, wherein one must accept uncertainty and circumstance. The dreamlike depictions of the universe in these works reflect the subconscious mind, blending the artist’s dreams with visual memories. Among them is a childhood memory of standing with her father gazing at the scenery through the portal of the Window of Enlightenment in Japan.

The exhibition invites viewers to recall forgotten moments and memories, creating space in their mind to find solace and strength as they navigate life’s uncertain path. Art stirs human emotions connected to nature, as if the spirit were transcending that sphere. That experience is described as “one’s spirit beyond the portal”.
