Holding Light

Public Art Installation, 2026–2027

Holding Light is an outdoor sculptural installation exploring the relationship between observation, memory, erosion, and light. Drawing from the irregular presence and asymmetrical placement of stones in contemplative landscapes, the work brings together a constellation of sculptural forms that appear scattered yet quietly connected.

Their weathered surfaces suggest objects shaped gradually by time, water, and touch. Openings, folds, and cavities interrupt the forms, allowing light and shadow to shift across and through them throughout the day. Rather than presenting a single fixed viewpoint, the installation invites viewers to encounter the forms through movement—to notice changing relationships, distances, and small details as they pass through the site.

Continuing Huang’s interest in looking as a contemplative practice, Holding Light considers how sustained attention can create moments of stillness within the movement and noise of everyday life.
