Learn to listen with your whole self—mind, body, and soul—to the gift of our personal stories in this one-day intensive Playback Theatre workshop. This original form of improvisational theater gets audience members involved, as they tell stories from their lives and watch them enacted on the spot.
With roots in traditional oral storytelling, psychodrama, and the work of Paolo Freire, Playback Theatre was inspired from the beginning by the role of ritual and ceremony in the community life of traditional societies. Participants will learn Playback Theatre forms and will have the chance to experience key roles, including conductor, actor, and musician. Participants will also learn to identify the essence of a story, the multi-layered meanings within the story, and the art of hearing the story a teller tells.
Whether or not you have theatre experience, this workshop will unlock your creativity, connect you with your intuition, and sharpen your listening skills. All are welcome. Continuing education credit is available for mental health professionals.
