Creative Play: A Felting Mini-Workshop

Learn to make nuno felt, a fun and fast approach to an ancient fiber medium. Lay luscious merino wool out on a piece of loosely woven fabric. With soap and water and a variety of movements—rolling, throwing, rubbing—the fabric becomes felted with your unique design. This technique is well suited for making garments. By the end of the workshop, each student will have a completed scarf or wall hanging. Materials are included in the registration fee.

Gika Rector, a former artist in residence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, has been exploring felt-making as an art form for more than 10 years. She gives classes and workshops in felt-making at various locations in the Houston area and beyond.
