Encounter the challenging and fascinating Tibetan meditation practice of Chöd in this lecture with scholar Alejandro Chaoul. Practiced in scary places such as cemeteries and charnel grounds, Chöd is intended to evoke fear, which is then used by the Chöpa (Chöd practitioner) to cut through their attachments and emotional ties. Chöd incorporates elements of early shamanism as well as sutric and Tantric traditions and the highest school of Tibetan Buddhism, Dzogchen. Through lecture and images, we will explore the history of Chöd and discuss the practices, which include elaborate contemplative visualizations.
