How should we balance the inner and the outer, the masculine and the feminine, the eternal and the every day? In struggling with goals and duties, how do we also attend to the workings of destiny and the cosmos? Two mythic stories, The Ramayana and The Mahabharata, will guide us into the Eastern genius for the development of consciousness. As we explore the modern meaning of these timeless epics, you also will learn about Jung's relationship to Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Zen. Along with storytelling, this discussion-oriented class will utilize film, poetry, music, and exercises- creative expressions that help us sustain the balance of heaven and earth.
Jerry M. Ruhl, PhD, is executive director of The Jung Center and a Jungian psychologist in private practice. He is the author of three books with Robert A. Johnson, including Balancing Heaven and Earth.
