What qualities make Gustav Mahler so important and compelling? Perhaps the most emotionally powerful and expressive composer in history, Mahler created in essence an autobiography in sound. Through lecture, discussion, film clips, and recordings, we will enter Mahler's world, and experience the genius of his musical universe. Along the way, we will discover how Mahler's music includes an invitation to personal transformation. Appropriate for all backgrounds and levels of musical knowledge.
Ed Applebaum, PhD, composer and conductor, has taught at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and in the Honors college at UH. He conducts research on depth psychology and the arts.
