How does a woman's animus - the excluded masculine aspects of a woman's conscious female self - support or undermine her sense of self-esteem and creative expression? In their book Female Authority, Polly Young-Eisendrath and Florence Wiedemann explore the ways in which healthy development depends on integrating these excluded parts. We will look at images of the animus—alien other, father or king, hero or partner—as they appear in myths and stories. When a woman gains the strength of her inner partner she becomes free to confront the hidden meanings and darkness of her femaleness.
